Oxford Brookes were the stars at the Wallingford Eights and Fours Head which attracted 252 crews from all over England.

Their men monopolised the eights with five titles, taking the senior, elite and intermediate 1, 2 and 3 crowns.

The Brookes winning senior eight were the fastest of the day, clocking 13mins 43secs, while their winning elite eight also recorded 14.02 in beating Molesey by three seconds.

In the fours, Brookes also won the elite coxed and the women’s intermediate 3 coxed.

Ben Reed, who coaches both Wallingford and Nephthys, the Oxford men’s Boat Race lightweights, saw his Dark Blue men win two divisions – the intermediate 3 coxed fours and the novice eights.

Hosts Wallingford took the men’s veteran F eights and the women’s veteran B eights, both unopposed.

They also claimed the women’s elite coxless fours where two Wallingford women combined with two from City of Oxford.

St Edward’s School won the intermediate 2 men’s coxed fours from generally older opponents.

Meanwhile, Abingdon RC recorded a hat-trick at the Evesham Head.

Their women’s masters quad won the intermediate 2 class, setting a new course record in the process.

Other wins came in the men’s masters E and masters D doubles categories.
