ALEX Stanley’s 25-yard strike earned Didcot Town a 1-0 victory over Bridgwater Town and their first home Evo-Stik Southern League success in eight months.

Stanley’s goal came after 18 minutes of the Division 1 South & West clash and was set up by debutant and former Newcastle United striker Paul Robinson.

Didcot keeper Dean Santangelo had to make great saves from Kye Palmer and Aaron Cornwall in the second half, while Tom Hamilton missed a great chance to equalise.

Andy Ballard headed the winner from Marvin Martin’s 30th-minute corner as Oxford City saw off North Leigh 1-0 in round two of the Red Insure Cup.

Andy McCabe headed wide for North Leigh after the break, while Stuart Hole struck a free-kick straight at City keeper Keith McLoughlin.

Banbury United crashed out of the FA Trophy with a 4-0 defeat at Wealdstone in their third qualifying round replay.

A Richard Jolly hat-trick and a goal from Chris O’Leary did the damage for the hosts.
