Gosford All Blacks’ second-half surge ensured they defeated Faringdon 42-23 in their Oxfordshire Shield quarter-final at Stratfield Brake.

The hosts trailed 16-3 at one point, but five tries saw them run out comfortable winners.

Darren Clarke kicked Faringdon ahead with a penalty, with Gosford skipper Tim Ellis levelling.

Clarke added another penalty and converted a try from centre Jason Morbey after Gosford flanker Joel Walker and prop Matthew Williams had been sin-binned.

A third Clarke penalty made it 16-3, with Ellis slotting his second three-pointer just before half-time.

Half backs Harry Sutton and Will Watts got Gosford on the try trail, Ellis converting both.

Wing Patrick Siret and flanker Eugene Griffin bagged tries three and four, Ellis converting both and adding a penalty.

Ellis got a deserved score himself, before Faringdon earned a penalty try, Clarke converting.

Littlemore held on to beat a depleted Wheatley side 21-19.

Lee Gillett converted a try from Simon Gamble to put Littlemore ahead, but it was 7-7 at the break after Adam Ford added the extras to Ben Kelsey’s score.

Tries from Dan Shepherd and Max O’Donnell, converted by Gillett, made it 21-7, but Wheatley rallied with Phil Glenn and Rory Stevens going over and Ford converting one.

The penalty count rose and Wheatley lost Nick Banton and Oli Holmes to the sin-bin, condemning them to defeat.

Blue Boar hammered Abingdon 90-0 in the other tie, while Chipping Norton received a walkover from Didcot.
