Oxford Hawks came back from their trip to Horsham with a 3-2 victory in their final women's Conference East game before the Christmas break.

The Sussex side took an early lead, but Hawks were soon level via Becky Odlin after good inter-play with Zoe Lamb.

Hawks continued to dominate and went ahead before the break when Henri Coles crossed for Anna French to deflect into the roof of the net.

One of the best team goals of the season, calmly finished by Katherine Poulter, made it 3-1, before Takara Haines was denied from the penalty spot.

Horsham stepped up the pressure, converting a short corner, but Hawks weathered the storm.

Oxford went down 2-1 at Oxfordshire rivals Banbury in South Division 2 on Saturday, but made amends by winning 2-0 at Harrow in the England Trophy the following day.

Banbury went ahead after a great run and shot from Tash Nunneley was bundled over the line by Victoria Page. A second followed after 20 minutes, Ali Sturla’s cross being was deftly turned in by Mel Wilkinson.

Oxford looked a different side after the break and Jill Gordon, Harriet Wilkinson, Lucy Eddowes and Clare Shaw didn’t give the Banbury attack a look-in.

The visitors pulled one back when a Catherine Reaney cross was touched home by Laura Smyth.

Oxford continued to press, aided by two yellow cards to the home team, and Hayley Sawyer and Becky Hibbert were both unlucky not to find an equaliser.

In Sunday’s second-round tie, Oxford soon came under pressure and Becky Sammon was called into action early on.

However, with Kim Haynes and Hayley Sawyer working well down the flanks, Oxford went ahead when Becky Hibbert set up Rachael Lammey. Harrow came out strongly in the second half and succeeded in winning a string of penalty corners, but Oxford held firm.

They made it 2-0 on the break as Wilkinson threaded a pass through to Haynes, who finished with a reverse stick strike into the bottom corner.

Bicester triumphed 2-1 away to Wallingford 2nd in Trysports Premier 2.

After a winning a number of penalty corners, Bicester went ahead when Lisa Ryan smashed a shot towards the keeper which rebounded to find Ella Weston for a tap-in.

Kath Crook made it 2-0 within a minute of the restart before Wallingford pulled a goal back from a reverse chip which looped over unsighted keeper Jo Underhill.

Rivals South Bucks also won 2-1 and are now level on points and goal difference with Bicester.

Witney drew 2-2 at home to West Hampstead in Division 3 A.

A skilful run from captain Katie Gatt set up Joy Mangazi’s second goal of the game after Witney had failed to put away two penalty flicks and several short corners. Izzy Stubbs was Witney’s player of the match.

Two goals from Laura Pidduck earned Kidlington a 2-0 win away to Oxford 5th in Division 2.

Oxford Under 18s are through to the quarter-finals of the England Cup after Stourbridge withdrew from the competition on the morning of the match. OTHER RESULTS.
