Abingdon United manager Richie Bourne aims to get one over his old boss Gary Ackling when they host Thatcham Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West on Tuesday night.
Bourne played under Ackling at Hungerford Town and their paths crossed when Bourne was managing Wantage Town and Acking was boss at Milton United in the Hellenic League.
“He’s an old mate of mine and I have always looked up to him,” said Bourne.
“I am always on the phone to him asking his advice. I’m looking forward to locking horns with him.”
Meanwhile, Bourne praised his players for their attitude in their 3-1 win at Wimborne Town on Saturday.
He said: “It was a terrific win. It wasn’t pretty, but we did what we had to do.
“It was a battle because we were looking tired after long trips to Sholing and Bideford.
“But the players showed great determination and team spirit.”
Bourne added: “Thatcham is a very tough one, but if we play like we have been doing we have every chance of getting a good result.”
