Sheff Utd 3 (Evans 12, 19, Flynn 71), Oxford Utd 0 Oxford United's FA Cup campaign ended at the first hurdle after Chris Wilder suffered an unhappy return to his hometown club this afternoon.

League One high-fliers Sheffield United ran out convincing winners after a fine first-half display at Bramall Lane.

Ched Evans scored twice and Ryan Flynn added No 3 19 minutes from time as Danny Wilson's side booked their name in the hat for tomorrow's second-round draw.

Oxford were below-par and against higher-league opposition, you don't get away with not being at your best.

To their credit, and helped by the introduction of James Constable at half-time, United had a real go in the second half, spurred on by a tremendous away support.

But Flynn's strike ended any hopes of a comeback.

Wilder made three changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Southend in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in midweek.

Ryan Clarke, Andy Whing and Peter Leven returned, which meant that leading scorer Constable had to again make do with a place on the bench.

The U's fell behind in the 12th minute, but with fortune favouring the hosts.

Stephen Quinn's ball in from the left saw Richard Cresswell attempt an overhead kick.

He missed completely, but the ball fell to the feet of Evans, who fired home with the game's first shot.

Ryan Clarke saved well from Lee Williamson, but could do nothing when Andy Whing fouled Cresswell 20 yards out, and from the free-kick Evans drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

Seconds later, Evans beat Jake Wright to the ball and saw a powerful 20-yard effort pushed away by Clarke.

Oxford's first attempt on goal came in the 24th minute when Peter Leven tried to catch home keeper Steve Simonsen napping from a free-kick, but his effort was comfortably saved.

United made two half-time substitutions, Constable and Harry Worley on for Jonathan Franks and Paul McLaren as the U's switched to a 3-5-2 formation from their 4-5-1 starting system.

Just six minutes in, Asa Hall's neat back-heel set Steve Kinniburgh free, and his cross was met by Constable, but his header was easily saved.

It did, however, get the visiting fans in full voice.

Clarke then was quickly off his line as Evans raced through on goal, and United's keeper recovered quickly to keep out Ryan Flynn's follow-up effort.

However, Clarke then decided to come from a ball into the box, but didn't get there.

Cresswell headed back towards goal, and with United's defenders trying to head the danger clear, the ball fell for Flynn who fired into the roof of the net.

And try and they might for a consolation goal in front of their supporters, Oxford could not break down Sheffield United's backline.
