Joseph Reeves-Smith turned on the power to win the last round in the club championships at the Rissington Kart Club.
Having progressed from the Cadet category where he was a multiple winner, the 12-year-old, from Over Norton, near Chipping Norton, was competing in the Junior TKM class at the Gloucestershire track.
Racing against youngsters up to five years older than himself, Reeves-Smith was seventh on the grid for the main final, having finished eighth, third and seventh in the qualifying heats.
He made good progress through the field in his machine, which had a new chassis supplied by Jade Karts, of Edgehill, passing the three main championship contenders and the champion-elect to grab the glory in the final by more than a second.
The Chipping Norton School student’s achievement was topped with the new lap record for the category, breaking the previous mark by more than 0.3 of a second.
Club champions – Cadet: A McRoberts. Minimax: B Davies. Junior TKM: C Johnson. Junior Rotax: M Ryder. Senior Rotax: C Thomas. Senior TKM: G Tolley.
