Oxford City boss Mike Ford says his side have a great opportunity to take the Premier Division club to new heights on Tuesday when they travel to Arlesey Town.

Victory against the Bedfordshire side would see third-place City take over at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division for the first time.

On Saturday, City climbed to third in the table with a 3-1 win at home to St Albans City, thanks to a Lee Steele double and an Andy Ballard strike.

And Ford wants them to keep up the good work against a side to whom City lost 2-1 in the FA Vase final at Wembley in 1995.

“We were excellent on Saturday and we need the same again tonight,” said Ford.

“We haven’t even mentioned Saturday’s game (away at Redbridge in the FA Cup).

“Last week all we talked about was St Albans City and this week Arlesey is all we have mentioned. “It’s is of massive, massive importance and we can go three points clear at the top of the table.”

City welcome back Declan Benjamin from suspension, while Steve Basham is likely to replace former Oxford United teammate Steele in attack.

Ford explained: “Steve has been struggling with an Achilles problem for a while so we left him out Saturday.

“That’s why I wanted to bring in Steve to the club because neither of them can play in every game.”

North Leigh manager Mark Gee is looking for a repeat of Saturday’s 3-1 win against leaders Hungerford at home to Cinderford in Division 1 South & West.

He added: “We beat a team who are nine points clear at the top and played well.

“We passed it well and were the better side.

“Cinderford have a similar way of playing to Hungerford. So a repeat show would be very good.”

North Leigh are without the suspended Keiran Sanders.

Abingdon United travel to Bideford.
