Chris Wilder says that Oxford United will be trying to keep Rob Hall at the club for longer than a second month.

Hall hinted last week that he would be keen to stay with the U’s until the end of the season – and after his two goals in last night’s 5-1 victory over Plymouth, the Oxford fans chanted ‘sign him on’.

James Constable also scored twice, with a sensational lob from Peter Leven making up United’s tally.

But Hall’s goalscoring prowess – he has now scored six times in nine appearances since joining on loan from West Ham – has proved invaluable in United’s great run, which has seen them lose just once in ten matches.

He is in the middle of a second month, but Wilder, as well as the supporters, would like that extended.

“From my point of view, I’d love to have him here for longer,” United’s manager said.

“We went to the West Ham game last night and I think that they must be very happy with him here.

“He’s flourishing, playing regular matches and is enjoying it here. We’re enjoying him being here, as are the supporters, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“Robbie’s done great, but there were a lot of outstanding performances tonight.”

Hall, who turned 18 last week, put United ahead after 15 minutes, but basement boys Plymouth equalised ten minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after a foul by Michael Duberry.

But Wilder’s side came again, with some terrific passages of play, to record their biggest win of the season.

“We played some really good stuff tonight,” Wilder added.

“We’ve got a bit of a habit at the moment where we go ahead, take our foot off the gas and then go again. The difference tonight was that when we went again, we were clinical.

“There are times where we might over-play, but that was a fantastic crowd for a Tuesday night and I think that shows that we are doing the right things as a football club.

“I want my teams to play football and we will keep doing that.

“And some of the stuff we played tonight was outstanding.”
