Chris Wilder wants his players to take more responsibility when chances come their way – starting with tonight’s npower League Two clash with basement boys Plymouth at the Kassam Stadium.

On Saturday, his Oxford United side created a host of scoring opportunities, but went down 1-0 at Gillingham as their eight-match unbeaten run was ended.

“In the last two games, we have created 32 opportunties on goal and only scored once, which is difficult to take,” said a frustrated Wilder.

“It’s difficult, because I don’t want to knock the players too much.

“Our general play is good, but as always, the difficult part is sticking the ball in the back of the net.

“Whoever we play and whatever personnel we play, they have to take responsibility for scoring.”

Meanwhile, Wilder said there would be no complacency against Plymouth.

He added: “The preparation whether we are playing Plymouth or Crawley is exactly the same.

“We’ll be focusing on them – their strengths and weaknesses and we’ll be majoring on what we are good at.

“The boys worked tremendously hard to go those games unbeaten and they know they can do that again, starting Tuesday.”

Midfielder Paul McLaren said: “We were disappointed on Saturday, but we’ve got a good game now to put it right.

“They’re scrapping for their lives at the bottom and they will be working hard. So we have to match them for work ethic and hopefully create some chances and put a few of them away this time.”

United are set to name the same squad. Deane Smalley has recovered from the head injury against the Gills and is likely to battle it out with James Constable for a place in the starting line-up.

Plymouth, who won 3-2 at Dagenham in their last away trip, will be without midfielder Conor Hourihane, who is suspended.

Oxford Utd: from Clarke, Batt, McLaren, Duberry, Wright, Heslop, Smalley, Potter, Leven, Davis, R Hall, A Hall, Philliskirk, Whing, Kinniburgh.

Plymouth: from Cole, Berry, Nelson, Gibson, Williams, Walton, Soukouna, Atkinson, Feeney, Lecointe, Griffiths, Bhasera, Vassell, Larrieu, Young.
