BRADLEY Smith looks like missing the remainder of the Moto2 season after suffering a broken left collar-bone and bruising to his chest.

The 20-year-old Tech 3 Racing Team rider, from Forest Hill, near Oxford, crashed on the first lap of practice at Sepang, Malaysia ahead of tomorrow’s grand prix.

Smith is definitely out of round 17 at Sepang, and with the final event in Valencia just two weeks away, he must be a major doubt for that too.

He lies seventh in the championship standings on 121 points, 44 ahead of eighth-placed Yuki Takahashi.

Smith’s crash came following a freak burst of rain, which caused Jules Cluzel, championship contender Marc Marquez and Smith to collide at turn ten.

He was taken to hospital in Kuala Lumpur for a scan after he complained of pains in his shoulder and chest, and then began to cough up blood.

Scans showed no signs of serious internal injuries and he was asked to stay overnight.

The crash saw Malaysian Grand Prix organisers fined €15,000 after the wet patch was not properly flagged by marshals.

The rain shower fell at the corner between the end of MotoGP practice and Moto2 starting, but the slippery surface warning flag was not shown.

“The flag marshals didn’t display the appropriate flag at Turn ten where the track was completely wet, creating a very dangerous situation for the riders, which is an infringement to the Art. 1.22.1 of the FIM Road World Championship Grand Prix Regulations,” said an FIM statement.
