Oxford United were last night still considering whether to contest an FA charge that their players overstepped the mark during last Saturday’s npower League Two clash against Bristol Rovers.

It’s understood the charge relates to an incident when players from both sides clashed following a late tackle by United’s on-loan striker, Rob Hall, who was booked.

Rovers were yesterday fined £1,000 after admitting the charge. Oxford have until 4pm on Monday to respond.

A club statement said: “Oxford United can confirm that following last Saturday’s game against Bristol Rovers both clubs have been charged with ‘failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour’.

“After an initial review of the match, the club are surprised at the charge. However, the club are currently reviewing the full report and video evidence before making any further comment.”
