Oxford's Jason Plato has vowed to give it everything as he bids to retain his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in the season finale at Silverstone tomorrow.

The defending champion trails series leader Matt Neal by five points with three races left to turn the tables on the Honda Racing Team Civic driver.

But it’s not just a duel as Gordon Shedden is tied in second with Plato, and Mat Jackson and James Nash are also in with a chance of capturing the title.

Plato said: “It’s exciting, really exciting, because with the number of points available, we’re still in with a shout.

“We’re going to give our seatbelts an extra tug and throw everything at it.

“My team, Silverline Chevrolet, has left no stone unturned. They’ve all put in 100 per cent to make sure everything is perfect.

“One of my mantras is ‘if you’re going to get wet, might as well go swimming’, so we’re going to get our wet suits on.”

Plato added: “With the championship the way it is, with five drivers in with a chance of winning the title, I’m hoping it will capture people’s imagination.

“I have no doubt it will be a fantastic turn out with lots of fans attending, which will be great for Silverstone and the BTCC.”

Neal is more determined than ever to clinch the title for the Honda Racing Team.

He said: “I am approaching the weekend with a primary goal that one of us must win for Honda. Failure is not an option.”

Standings (top six): 1 M Neal 225pts, 2= J Plato, G Shedden 220, 4 M Jackson 189, 5 J Nash 181, 6 A Jordan 127.
