Horspath Hammers will be crowned British Premier League champions if they beat Wednesfield Aces in their home finale at the Village track on Sunday (2pm).

With second-placed Leicester, who trail the Oxfordshire side only on race points, expected to beat East Newport, Hammers must win to take the title.

However, Hammers will have to do it without three of their riders. Matty Szymczak and Steve Harris are both racing in play-off matches in Poland, while Lewis Osborne serves a match ban picked up in the 96-78 win at Sandwel.

Shaun Rudman will deputise for Harris, but the other replacements are yet to be named.

Last week, Mike Burgess returned from a four-month lay-off as Horspath beat Southampton 100-76 in the South & South Wales Division.

Wayne Clarke, Lee Clarke and Zac Payne led the scoring to keep that championship charge on track. Matt Coulter and Wayne Hutt also scored heavily.

Horspath scorers: W Hutt 14+3, M Coulter 8, M Burgess 10+1, W Clarke 16+1, Z Payne 16+2, L Clarke 15+2, J Neighbour 8, J Richardson 7.

HAMMERS went down to a 39-46 defeat to Southampton in Division 2.
