Andy Haworth last night extended his loan at Oxford United by another month – and can’t wait to try and make a big impact.

The Bury winger arrived at the Kassam Stadium in the middle of September, but endured a frustrating first few weeks at the Kassam Stadium.

The 23-year-old made two substitute appearances, before an ankle injury saw him forced to sit out the next two matches.

But Haworth was handed a first start against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, and he can’t wait to build on that in the coming weeks.

“I’m really enjoying it down here,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the next month, hopefully playing more games and helping the team get more victories.”

Haworth admits that his injury came at a bad time, but was pleased with the patience shown by boss Chris Wilder, who did not want the winger to rush himself back.

And he was delighted that his first start coincided with an impressive home win.

“It was great to get that first start under my belt,” he explained.

“I obviously had come here a few weeks before that, but I have been injured with my ankle, so it’s been a little bit frustrating.

“The gaffer told me to make sure that I get the ankle 100 per cent which was great to hear, and it is now so I’m ready to kick on.”

Haworth says he has been impressed with Oxford since his arrival, and although he missed a good chance to score his first goal for the club, is hopeful more opportunities will come his way.

“It was a really good all-round team performance on Saturday and I am sure that we can really push on now,” he added.

“We knew how important it was to get a good home victory.

“It was disappointing not to score on a personal note, but at the end of the day the team getting the win was the most important thing.

“Hopefully more chances will come my way in the next month.”

Boss Wilder said: “I knew a lot about Andy and he had not been figuring for Bury.

“I thought that on Saturday he showed everybody glimpses of what he is all about.

“He was picking the ball up and being really positive.

“He maybe should have scored, but it was still a great run and he is a player that puts other teams on the back foot.

“If you look at it, we haveRobbie Hall, Alfie Potter, Deane Smalley and Beano (James Constable) up front, so we’re not over-blessed with numbers so it was important that we did Andy for another month.

“There is a lot of competition for places up there and it’s really important that they all keep each other on their toes.”
