OXFORD City striker Steve Basham hopes he can stay on the goal trail when they visit Blue Square Bet South strugglers Eastleigh in tomorrow’s FA Cup third qualifying round tie.

Basham netted four times in City’s 7-1 Southern League victory over Swindon Supermarine last week, with his half-time replacement Lee Steele grabbing a hat-trick.

But the former Oxford United man said he is still hungry for more.

“Hopefully I have saved some goals up for this week,” he said.

“I think that was why he took me off at half-time!”

Basham added: “I have had a bit of a sore Achilles. It was a case of the game being done and getting it rested.”

Eastleigh have struggled so far this season, and are just one place outside the relegation zone, a fact not missed by Basham.

He said: “It is a great draw for the club. It is winnable if we play well.

“Eastleigh are a good side. They are full-time and the majority of them are youngsters, but anything can happen “It is a great occasion for the club and we are looking forward to it.

“We have got to maintain that level we showed last week and keep our run going.”

As for his efforts against Supermarine, Basham said: “It was the first time in my career that I have scored four, which was very nice.

“It was a strange game really. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.”

For tomorrow’s trip, new signing Jamie Heapy is cup-tied, while Marvin Martin (knee) is a slight doubt.

City boss Mike Ford said: “Looking from the outside, Eastleigh will obviously be favourites, being the home side from a league above.

“But we will be positive and try and win the game first time.

“We’re relishing the chance to go down there and the players can prove to themselves that they are good enough to play at the next level.”
