OXFORD United head to Macclesfield tomorrow looking for a fifth straight away win.

And if they achieve victory at Moss Rose, it will be, of sorts, a first for the club.

History books show that United have only won five successive away matches once before, back in 2002.

However, one of those successes came in the League Cup on a penalty shoot-out.

So while the U’s did experience victory for five away matches in a row, the win at Charlton came after the full-time score was 0-0.

A win tomorrow though will ensure that a legitimate five straight away success will be in the club’s history.

Last week’s 3-0 home win over Bristol Rovers was a mightily-impressive performance.

I felt it was United’s best all-round display this season, with no weaknesses in the team.

Boss Chris Wilder called it a “very good performance”, but ever the perfectionist, feels his side can be even better.

“It was a good day for us and a great result in front of a big crowd,” he said.

“I honestly believe we have played better in terms of the movement, passing and control of the game, “But we limited the opposition to one chance early on and we deserved to win the game.

“I didn’t get too carried away with it afterwards. It was a very good performance, but there are certain bits that we can do better.

“We are in good nick, are confident and we should be because we have done really well of late.

“But we know that can abruptly come to an end if our attitude and mentality is not right. But away from home this year, I have to say that attitude and mentality has been spot-on.”

Macclesfield will be no pushovers, however, and Wilder says that the players who featured there last season will be keen to get a result after letting slip a 2-0 half-time lead and losing 3-2.

And this season, no team has conceded fewer goals at home.

“Our away record has been fantastic,” Wilder said. “I have always said it is important to keep picking up points on the road and we have done that.

“But we know that it will be a tough game against a team who have a very good home record.

“There won’t be a massive crowd, but Macclesfield always compete and we know from last year that we have to be at our best.

“We were 2-0 up at half-time there, and it should have been 5-0, but credit to Macclesfield, because they came back to get the win.”
