Wantage-based jockey Cathy Gannon sustained a broken right leg after suffering a bad fall before the opening race at Nottingham yesterday.
She was unshipped from Forever Janey on the way to the start for the five-furlong maiden auction stakes.
She was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Gannon, who was enjoying her best season with 56 wins, tweeted: “Gutted, I’ve fractured my femur (thigh).”
