Didcot Town won their first game at the Loop Meadow Stadium in more than six months with a morale-boosting FA Trophy preliminary-round 3-1 victory over fellow Southern League side Clevedon on Saturday.

There was an explosive start for new boss Dave Mudge’s side, with debutants Stephen Davis and Victor Asombang firing them 2-0 ahead within eight minutes.

The first was a well-taken volley from Davis from 15 yards-out which gave Clevedon keeper Dawid Dulawa no chance.

The second goal came after a powerful run and shot from Asombang.

A slip from goalkeeper Jon Beames gifted Reeko Best a simple tap-in as Clevedon rallied and halved the deficit midway through the opening half.

Davis’s dream start continued when he made it 3-1 on 67 minutes.

This time is was Sam Elkins and Joss Millar, who created the opening and Davis headed home from close range.

Didcot skipper Danny Seaward could have extended the lead, but saw two efforts fly inches wide.

The Railwaymen now travel to Marlow in the first qualifying round on October 22.
