CHRIS Wilder praised his players for delivering on the big stage following Saturday’s victory.

Oxford United’s boss said that such was the determination in the dressing room to get the three points, he hardly had to say anything before the match to get his pumped up for the 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers.

“I’m not having to do a great deal at the moment, the players are driving it on themselves,” Wilder said of his in-form side.

“In terms of motivation, I didn’t have to say a great deal before today, the players knew it was a big game.

“And they have delivered a big performance.”

United’s boss added: “We were playing against a good team who are expecting to go back up, and we had a real big focus to win this game.

“It was a great crowd and we’re delighted to get the victory.”

The win saw two goals from James Constable and United’s first penalty of the season, converted by Peter Leven.

“I’m happy to get the penalty of course, but can’t see how the boy (Byron Anthony) hasn’t got sent off to be honest because Robbie is clean through,” Wilder said.

“But it was well-taken by Pete and I just thought we made some really good decisions in the second half with or without the ball.

“Hopefully, now we can go on a run at home and keep picking up wins – there was a great energy from everybody out there today.”
