Oxford Utd 3 (Constable 16, 84, Leven pen 51), Bristol Rovers 0 James Constable scored twice and Peter Leven converted Oxford United's first penalty of the season as Chris Wilder's side made it five wins from six games today.

The victory maintains the U's unbeaten home form and ends a run of frustrating draws at the Kassam Stadium.

United went ahead in the 16th minute when Simon Heslop broke well from midfield, and played in Constable.

The striker ran at Cian Bolger, went to his left and fired in a terrific shot that beat the diving Scott Bevan and nestled into the back of the net.

Constable's second of the game came through the same source six minutes from time.

Heslop again ran at the Rovers defence, fed Constable, whose slightly toe-poked left-foot effort beat Bevan at his near post.

Sandwiched in between was Leven's penalty, converted six minutes after half-time.

Haworth raced though the middle, and played a great ball into the run of Rob Hall, who was brought down by Byron Anthony in the box.

The defender was booked and from the penalty, Leven cooly slotted home.

However, it should be said that Oxford needed another spectacular save from Ryan Clarke when the game was 0-0.

In the 13th minute, a ball from Craig Stanley found Scott Rendell in acres of space 18 yards out. He brought the ball down and got in a left-foot shot that Clarke superbly diverted over with a foot.

But after that, United defended with total professionalism and their keeper was not really tested in the second half, despite Rovers having plenty of the ball.

In front of a huge gate of 9,291, it was a perfect afternoon for United fans, whose side were professional throughout and thoroughly deserved the three points.
