Oxford Hawks men went down 5-1 at home to Spencer in their last friendly before the league programme begins.

It was always going to be a tough game for the hosts, with Spencer playing in the league above them, but Hawks gave as good as they got in the first half.

The deadlock was broken when Hawks gave away the ball on their own 25, and Spencer went further ahead via a short-corner drag-flick.

Hawks pulled a goal back when Kieran Roche fired the ball into the D and James Ward deflected it into the Spencer goal.

In the second half, Hawks won two short corners but failed to convert them and Spencer scored a further three goals for a rather flattering scoreline.

Meanwhile, two goals from Dan Smyth and a Ben Richards strike were not enough for Oxford, who were pipped 4-3 at home to Swindon.
