Hannah England has nothing to lose today in the biggest race of her life.

The Oxford City athlete will compete in the final of the women’s 1,500m at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea at 12.55pm.

And following a thrilling semi-final heat where England was forced to produce a sprint finish in lane four of the home straight to qualify, she is hoping that things go much smoother today.

England has competed in the European Championships and Commonwealth Games, but this is the first time she will have raced against the best in the world in a major final.

England smashed her personal best by more than two seconds at the European Premium meeting in Barcelona in July, recording 4mins 1.89secs.

That is almost seven seconds faster than the time she recorded in the semi-finals, but she says she feels she is capable of going quicker.

“I know I have got a fast race in me, and hopefully that will come in the final,” she said.

“I am just excited to be there.”

England admitted that tactically she got it wrong on Tuesday.

She was forced to run wide for most of the race, and when she moved to the inside, there was no wat through, causing her to sprint for home down the middle of the track.

“It wasn’t a perfect race,” she admitted.

“I felt great, but I failed to get in any decent positions which wasn’t very good.

“I shouldn’t be running like that, but at least I did not panic.

“I could have got frustrated about it, but instead I just kept trying to look for gaps and look for opportunities and I’m just really lucky to be honest.

“But that doesn’t dent my confidence because that’s just the way the race went. I’m excited for the final.”

“If I can put it together, then who knows.”
