Headington C lifted the Oxfordshire Bowling Association’s Hawker Cup with a 47-34 win over Banbury Borough A in the final at Oxford City & County.
It was the first success in the county’s double fours competition for the Headington club since 2008, having been runners-up for the last two years.
Headington’s Mick Nash, Norman Rae, Colin Whitehead and Nick Rae-Welsh recorded a thrumping 34-12 win over Keith Holloway, John Brooks, Calvin Carpenter and Greg Moon to set up the success.
Banbury Borough’s AJ Docherty, Mick Redman, Richard Redford and Mark Sykes came out on top 22-13 on the other rink against John Nicholls, Ian Henwood, Paul Mabbutt and Craig Nicoll, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Headington claiming the cup.
In the semi-finals, Headington C crushed Banbury Central C, who were understrength with five players at Worthing, 63-11.
Banbury Borough won their semi 43-39 against Headington A, who beat Banbury Central C 43-33 in the third place play-off.
