Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas is full of praise for the attitude taken by the Oxford United squad so far this season.

And he is optimistic that their professional approach can reap rewards.

Despite a disappointing start to the season with defeat in their opening game at Rotherham, the U’s have hit back well and are unbeaten in three matches.

Back-to-back wins have seen Chris Wilder’s side climb to eighth in the npower League Two table, and Thomas says that the club is a “good place to be”, especially after Sunday’s derby victory over Swindon.

“Results like on Sunday are fantastic for Oxford and Oxfordshire,” he said. “Wins like that are for the fans really, but everyone is delighted by that result and the club is a good place to be at the moment.”

He added: “What I liked about our approach on Sunday, and especially that of Chris, is that he didn’t need to say anything before the match, or show anything during the game – but waited until afterwards and then showed what it meant.

“I’m really proud of everyone connected with the club after Sunday.

“We have had back-to-back wins against good sides, but we’ve got to be careful we don’t get carried away, we want to kick it on now.”

And Thomas praised the players for their attitude.

“You can’t go to a place like Swindon and expect to have all of the ball,” he said. “But our players haven’t gone under and that’s what you’re looking for – that’s a very good sign.”

Now the focus turns to trying to make it three straight wins against Aldershot on Saturday, where another good crowd is expected.

“It’s another big game for us, and I know that Chris will prepare the team properly for it, and hopefully we can continue our good run,” he added.
