MP SPORTS CHERWELL LEAGUE
MATCH OF THE DAY – OXFORD DOWNS V CUMNOR
Cumnor completed the double over local rivals Oxford Downs to put a massive dent in their opponents' title aspirations while keeping their own slender hopes alive.
Leaders Shipton-under-Wychwood are now the hot favourites, but either Downs or Cumnor could yet clinch their first league championship if Shipton slip up.
Downs made a steady start after being asked to bat on Saturday, but a middle-order collapse saw them crash from 59-1 to 79-6.
Justin Cantrell (40) was among those to fall as George Munsey captured four wickets and Adam Cook bowled throughout to keep the score down while claiming 3-39.
Munsey returned to dismiss Simon Launder and claim his fifth victim and wrap up the home side’s innings.
Cook then performed a similar role with the bat after tea, opening the batting to provide a steadying influence until victory was secured in the 34th over for the loss of five wickets.
Oxford Downs 7pts, Cumnor 25
