A late converted try earned Henley Hawks a 29-27 victory over Redingensians in their final pre-season friendly at Dry Leas.
Full back James Comben converted the effort from fly half Allen to cap a comeback from 27-0 down at half-time.
Hawks fielded a second team in the first period and struggled against full-strength opponents.
But tries from centre Danny Wells, scrum half Mickey Molloy, Allen, converted by Comben, and former Oxford Harlequins flanker Ryan Newman set up a grandstand finish.
Henley visit Hertford in their National 2 South opener on Saturday.
