EVO-STIK SOUTHERN LEAGUE

Cirencester Tn 0, Oxford City 1 (Barcelos 60)

FELIPE Barcelos scored a wonderful goal as Oxford City recorded their first win of the season in the Premier Division on Saturday.

Barcelos’s spectacular free-kick from ten yards inside Cirencester’s half was enough to secure the points in a deserved victory.

Early on, Michael Lyon fired a shot just off target.

After absorbing early pressure, Cirencester came more into the match, which fluctuated either way in the first half.

Cirencester defender Neil Arndale was lucky not to score an own goal when attempting to clear a cross, as his touch sent the ball behind.

Chances were sadly lacking until, from nowhere, City took the lead in spectacular style.

A free-kick was awarded ten yards inside the Cirencester half, and Brazilian ace Barcelos fired home a shot into the top right-hand corner, giving Cirencester keeper Danny Greaves no chance.

The goal gave City more impetus, and they dominated the remainder of the match.

Barcelos saw a cross headed against the crossbar by Steve Basham, while City again hit the woodwork when Reece Fleet crashed a shot against the bar.

Oxford City: Mooney, Clarke, Martin, Fleet, Green, Blossom, Barcelos, Benjamin, Lyon, Steele (Basham 69), Stanley (Deabill 86). Subs not used: Ashton, Learoyd.

Attendance: 125.
