Thame Town secured the double over local rivals Aston Rowant with thrilling 16-run win in the final over of their Division 2 West match in the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.

In a contest reduced to 96 overs by a short shower, Thame seemed in trouble when restricted to 159-8.

But left-arm spinner Jaydeep Bhatti put in another match-winning display with 7-55 as Rowant were dismissed for 143.

Asked to bat first, Thame got off to a flier, with Mike Higgs and James Neilson adding 62 for the first wicket before both fell in quick succession.

Following the rain, and with the ball swinging around, batting was not easy against Wes Morrick, who returned 6-66.

But Thame managed to set their opponents a target of 160 in 43 overs.

Rowant started positively and at tea, the game was well-balanced with the score 63-2.

Four wickets, including the invaluable one of Morrick, fell just after the interval, reducing Rowant to 90-6.

But opener Josh Smith (74) dug in and with him at the crease the game was still alive.

An inspired bowling change saw Pratik Patel dismiss Smith with the score on 130-7.

Bhatti took two more wickets to leave Rowant on 143-9, with one over to go.

But in trying to get No 11 Lee Anning off strike, they attempted a single off the third ball which ended in a suicide run out and gifted Thame 25 points.
