Despite an excellent all-round display from Nat Watkins, Aston Rowant had to settle for a high-scoring draw in their Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West derby at home to Dinton.

Watkins captured 5-40 as Dinton slumped from 262-4 to 180 all out and then made 76 in the hosts reply of 148-8.

After putting Dinton in, Towant claimed two early wickets through Karl Penhale.

However, Dinton’s Gareth Sharpe single-handedly resurrected their innings with a superb 150 before becoming penhale’s third victim.

Dinton, with a 300-plus sore beckoning, then collpased to Watkins to give Rowant a realistic victory tarhet.

Openers Watkins and Tim Morgan added 70before the latter went for 39.

Watkins and Josh Smith took the fight to Dinton adding 103 before Watkins was bowled for Watkins was bowled for 76.

Smith continued to bat well and amassed 78 runs but lacked partners as Rowant’s batsmen came and went in regular intervals. His innings ended when he was adjudged lbw to the bowling of Mike Morgan.

Rowant were then 230-6, requiring 50 runs off of five overs which was always going to be a tall order.

They played out time for a draw at 248-8.

Dinton were deducted a point for a slow over rate.
