Democrats Club went top of Group B in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford Summer League after a 6-0 win at strugglers Royal Standard, writes PETE EWINS.

In a low-scoring match, Billy Hill, Bob Parsons and Eddie Tebby won both of their games.

Masons are one point behind after a 4-2 win at Gladiators B.

Mick Murphy (4,620), Alan Lowe (8,110) and Martyn Wood (4,760) took the opening three frames.

Grant Johnson (3,870) and Phil Clark (7,270) made it 3-2 to keep Gladiators’ hopes alive.

But Wood clinched victory for Masons by taking the last leg with a score of 7,390 against Pete Smith.

Craig Mace was in terrific form in Berinsfield Club’s 3-3 draw at Marlborough Club in Group A.

He bagged a brace of wins with scores of 9,720 and 6,150 against Chris Plant.

Phil Mcfarland also struck for Berinsfield, with Chris Iagoe (4,470) and Arthur Mcintyre’s double earning Marlborough a draw.

OXFORD C beat Wycombe 6-4 on aggregate in the Inter Area C Team competition.

Oxford triumphed 4-1 in the first leg at the Gladiators, thanks to wins by Geoff Mace (6,770), Ian Gordon (6,030), Sid Ponting (4,110) and Dave Gordon.

In the return leg, Oxford went down 3-2 with Ian Gordon (5,080) and Geoff Mace (7,230) claiming the two points for an aggregate victory.

FAVOURITES Kennington Club knocked out Vikings Club 5-0 in their Oxfordshire quarter-final clash in the All England Team Championships at Lamb & Flag, Hailey.

Mark Trafford (9,050) and two last-ball wins for Kevin Godfrey (3,670-3,500) and Ian Gordon (3,280-3,240) saw Kennington take the opening three legs.

Keith Sheard then beat Ian Moss 6,270-5,210 , and son Steven top scored with 10,330 to complete the whitewash.
