Javelin-throwing brothers Jackson, Freddie and Redford Curtis will spearhead Oxfordshire’s challenge at the English Schools’ Track & Field Championships at Gateshead on July 1 and 2.

The trio, from Cokethorpe School, Witney, compete at senior, intermediate and junior age groups respectively.

Freddie won intermediate bronze at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, last year emulating elder brother Jackson, who took third in the same age group in 2009.

The Jacksons are among six youngsters from Cokethorpe to be selected in the Oxfordshire team – the best representation for any Oxon school in more than 20 years.

They are joined by senior boy George Lane (discus) together with junior girls Lois Waknell (100m) and Alex Cross (high jump).

One Cokethorpe athlete who misses out is sprinter Jacob Wilson, who won silver in the senior boys’ 100m at Birmingham last year.

He is named as a reserve behind Radley College’s Blair McCallum, who beat him at last weekend’s Oxfordshire Championships. Oxfordshire TEAM Boys Senior – 100m: B McCallum (Radley). 400mH: P Barnshaw (Abingdon). Discus: G Lane (Cokethorpe). Javelin: J Curtis (Cokethorpe).
