Banbury have brought 16-year-old off-spinner Josh Hill into the squad for their Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 game at home to Bishop’s Stortford tomorrow.

Hill, son of former Banbury left-armer Paul Hill, returned the amazing figures of 9-32 for Banbury 2nd in their MP Sports Cherwell League Division 2 derby against Banbury Twenty on Saturday.

Hill and Jimmy Phillips, who has been sidelined by injury, are added to Banbury’s side that just failed to beat champions Henley on Saturday.

“I’ve played indoor cricket with Josh and he seems a very good prospect,” said skipper Ian Hawtin, who added that Phillips and Hill were vying for one spot in the side.

Banbury have a doubt about Ollie Wright, who has a side strain, while batsman Nathan Hawkes and bowler Luke Radford are still both sidelined by injury.

Skipper Jason Harrison is looking to his Oxford bowlers to hunt as a pack again as the leaders face lowly Radlett at Roman Way.

Paceman Stuart Hole led the way with 5-32 in last week’s five-wicket win over Harpenden.

But Harrison believes the way his attack have worked together has played a key role in the side’s success this season. “He has bowled very well all season really and that was his reward on Saturday,” said the captain.

“As a pack we have bowled beautifully and when we are hunting like that people get rewards.”

Harrison, who names an unchanged 12 with Stefan Van Dyk the one to miss out last week, will also be guarding against complacency.

“Radlett have been a pretty decent force within the Premier League, so they will be no pushovers,” he added.

Horspath, boosted by opening their account against Harefield last week, give a Premier League debut to opening batsman Matt O’Connor for their trip to Reading in Division 2 West.

He comes into the side in place of all-rounder Mohson Rana, who continues to struggle with an ankle injury.

O’Connor will open with Ned Murray, with Jimmy Phillips moving down to No 4.

Skipper Robbie Eason, who plays on despite breaking a finger against Farnham Royal two weeks ago, said: “Matt has been scoring heavily in the 2nds and deserves his chance.”

Thame Town, who also got off the mark last Saturday by thrashing local rivals Aston Rowant, make two changes for the clash with Gerrards Cross at Church Meadow.

Will Rooney and Nilesh Patel return to the side in place of Chris Jeffcock and Matt Higgs.

Vice-captain Michael Higgs said: “Gerrards Cross haven’t won yet and we know Dinton beat them last Saturday, but they are a strong batting side and we will need to perform well again if we want to win.”

Aston Rowant bid to bounce back from their derby defeat when they visit leaders Burnham.
