Craig Haupt hit a terrific century as Banbury got the upper hand of a draw at Radlett in Division 1.

The powerful left-hander made 102 before being run out after Banbury had been put in to bat.

His ton set Banbury on the way to 273-8 off their 66 overs, and Radlett were then held to 228-8 with left-arm spinner Luke Ryan picking up 5-59 off 21 overs.

Haupt shared in a stand of 106 for the fourth wicket with Ian Tew, who made 68, while Heath Paynter (4-65) and Shane Burger (3-27) were the pick of Radlett’s bowlers.

Banbury’s opening attack of Luke Radford, the son of former England all-rounder Neal Radford, who also played for the north Oxfordshire club, and Nathan Hawkes were unable to make a breakthrough.

But Ryan and off-spinner Jimmy Phillips (3-96) then worked their way through the Radlett order as Haupt picked up five slip catches.

However, they were unable to force a victory after Burger completed a fine all-round game with 50 and Fraser Crawford made 47 to hold up the visitors.
