Track man Jimmy Hulbert not only rescued a race at Sunday’s BAGS meeting, but also saved the Stadium coffers as they don’t get paid for a ‘no race’.
Sharp-eyed Jimmy went into action when Miss Calypso was knocked over and when she got to her feet, started to run towards the approaching runners. However, Jimmy rugby-tackled her and saved the day.
The seasonal coughing virus has hit, meaning that on the last two Thursdays the card has been cut from 12 to 11 races.
Next Friday's BAGS meeting sees the heats of the BAGS 500 series of Kennel Sweepstakes.
The idea is to give lesser dogs a chance to win big money, with a £500 first prize and a trophy up for grabs.
Two from each of the three heats will contest the final.
