Headington Amateurs 4 (McCuaig 37, Jacob 42, Cuff 88, Smith 89)

Headington Amateurs secured their first Hellenic League title in style with an emphatic victory at Division 1 West basement boys Launton Sports.

Launton kept Headington at bay until the 37th minute when Jamie McCuaig took James Brown’s right-wing cross in his stride before beating Lee Durrant, who was deputising following the late withdrawal of Lewis Butler, from eight yards. Shaun Jacob then finished off a flowing move to double Headington’s lead at the break.

Headington had to wait until two minutes from time to add to their tally with Luke Cuff, on the bench ahead of his run in the London Marathon, coming on to drive a fierce shot past Durrant for his 28th league goal of the season.

Ashley Smith added a fourth when the otherwise excellent Durrant was nable to hold his inswinging corner kick and the celebrations were well and truly under way.

Clanfield 2 (Reason 35, Lewis 45)

Clanfield moved into second spot after withstanding heavy second-half pressure to claim victory at Lydney Town.

The visitors took the lead when a superb headed clearance by Adam Little found Sam Reason, who ran from his own half past four opponents to slot home from ten yards.

Clanfield were 2-0 ahead at the interval after Kevin Lewis chipped the Lydney keeper from 30 yards.

Lydney’s Danny Clarke scored from close in to set up a nervy last ten minutes, but Clanfield held on.
