Sprint racing could soon be a regular feature at Oxford Stadium.

Time and again there are hounds running at Oxford that show great pace in the early stages, but by the end of the 450 metre trip they are often found wantwhothat stays well will pass them on the home straight and the only time they get to win is when the grader puts like for like in a race.

Racing manager Gary Baiden said: “The suggestion of the return of 250 metre races has been made and the racing office are looking into it.

“The breeding in Ireland is mainly centered around early pace and perspective owners look to buy that sort of dog for Oxford.

“A large number of greyhounds have run their races by the third bend and it makes sense to introduce some sprints.

“They could provide a great interest as many patrons discuss who are the best sprinters at the track without actually being able to find out.”

“The management will be looking into the matter with immediate effect.”
