Didcot Tn 1 (Tabor 55)

Chesham Utd 0

Jordan Tabor scored the only goal as Didcot picked up an excellent victory over high-flying Chesham in the Premier Division.

Saturday’s match was skipper Jamie Heapy’s 700th for the club, and the win boosts their chances of avoiding the drop as Didcot incredibly picked up their first Saturday league victory home or away in 12 months!

The game was not a great spectacle with goalmouth chances as a premium.

The visitors controlled the first half with striker Leon Archer posing problems.

His best chance came on 32 minutes when Didcot keeper Sam Warrell saved well.

And shortly afterwards, Archer was thwarted a second time by a brave block from Andy Williams.

Didcot rarely threatened in the first half, but probably should have scored when striker Michael Bartley screwed his shot wide from a great position after Elliott Osbourne-Ricketts saw his goalbound effort blocked.

After the interval, the home side creating the best chances.

And when the goal did arrive, it was a super strike.

A free-kick some 25 yards from goal was superbly curled home by Tabor, giving Chesham keeper Shane Gore no chance.

Only a brilliant block from Chris Elsgood prevented Dave Lawrence from doubling Didcot’s advantage.

Chesham tried hard to force an equaliser and they came within inches of doing so when substitute Chris Bangura just failed to convert Archer’s cross from close range.

Despite a nervous seven minutes of added time Didcot held-on to make it a thoroughly memorable afternoon for Heapy and his colleagues.
