Henley Hawks were left to rue a 21-15 home defeat to Richmond.

Hawks felt they should have won - had they been able to control their line-outs, but managed just a losing bonus point.

Henley took the lead with the first of five penalties from full back James Comben.

Richmond replied on nine minutes when they latched on to a wayward throw from Henley hooker Ant Brennan, drove their maul and former Oxford University captain, flanker Peter Clarke, touched down.

Fly half Ross Broadfoot converted and did the same after another well-controlled catch-and-drive saw Clarke bag his second try.

A break from centre Neil Baggett set up Comben’s second penalty, while he added a third and fourth to make it 14-12 at the break.

The latter came after Richmond were reduced to 14 men, with prop Tim Woolford sin-binned for failing to roll away in the tackle.

When Comben struck again in the second half, a home win looked on.

However, they could not turn the screw and a knock-on at another line-out gave Richmond the platform to send full back Jonathan Wehbe in for try No 3 on 71 minutes, Broadfoot converting.

Hawks went close through wing Christoph Bart, but blew their final chance when going for a line-out with a late penalty.
