Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey says he will not tolerate a repeat of their display against Halesowen when Chippenham visit Spencer Stadium in the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division on Saturday.

Jeffrey was furious with his team after the 2-0 defeat against the Midlanders.

“The players’ attitudes against Halesowen was dreadful,” said Jeffrey, whose side went down to a 2-1 defeat against Bashley in midweek.

“No matter what I had said to the players in the week about it being a tough game, they just looked at the league table and thought they just had to turn up to win. But it’s not like that.

“I thought our attitude against Bashley was much better, although the result went against us.

“But we can’t start feeling sorry for ourselves.

“We are in a tight battle and have a difficult period of games coming up.”

Jeffrey feels that a good result is around the corner.

He added: “We played well on Tuesday and had a perfectly good goal ruled out (from Declan Benjamin).

“The ball was a yard across the line. Everybody in the ground said that it was a goal, apart from the referee and the linesmen who said they didn’t see it.

“There was 20 minutes to go and we were 2-1 down. If the goal had been allowed then maybe we could have gone on to win the game.

“We have to take it on the chin. We have to roll our sleeves up and work even harder.

“Chippenham are one of the best teams in the league, so it will be tough.”

North Leigh manager Mark Gee has urged his players to forget about the last meeting with Bridgwater when they travel to the same opponents in Division 1 South & West.

Earlier this month, North Leigh led 5-0 with 14 minutes left only for it to be abandoned due to fog.

And Gee said: “It’s going to be at the back of our minds, but since that game Bridgwater have improved.

“I think it will be tougher than it was last time. It will be difficult because we did so well against them last time.”

Matt Taylor and Aaron Posey (both ankle injuries) face late tests.
