Oxford United boss Chris Wilder was not happy with his team’s display – despite another useful point on their travels last night.

The U’s earned a second successive 0-0 draw away from home, and many will have felt sharing the spoils at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium was a decent result.

But if the players thought their manager would be upbeat when he went into the changing room afterwards, they had to think again.

Wilder said: “I might have popped a few balloons in there (dressing room) because the players thought they had done well, and I had a go at one or two of them.

“The quality we have shown that has got us around the play-off positions, in terms of the final ball from the midfield to the front men, was not on show tonight.

“We are not happy with average – and that’s what I said to the players.”

United’s manager added: “I might have set myself up here, but we want to go up. We don’t want a year of consolidation, we want to go for it.

“I’m not the type of manager who asks his players to go for it now and again, I want them to go for it all the time.

“That’s what we demand of players in an Oxford United shirt, and some of them might have had a bit of a shock tonight.

“There were pats on the back in the changing room, but I told them exactly what I thought.”
