Chris Wilder believes his attack-minded Oxford United side could have an “interesting” end to the season ahead.

The U’s sounded a warning to their rivals by beating fourth-placed Rotherham 2-1 at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

It was another stylish home performance from Oxford, who moved up to eighth place in League Two – just two points off the play-off positions ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Stevenage.

“We’re a really positive side,” Wilder said. “This was a big three points for us.

“If we can get at sides here with an atmosphere that is positive and drives us forward, we’ve got an int-eresting end of the season to come.”

Oxford still have to play promotion-chasing Crewe, Wycombe and Chesterfield at home in the final six weeks of the campaign.

Wilder brought in Simon Heslop and Jack Midson, and these two combined for Heslop’s well-struck opening goal in the first half.

Rotherham equalised before the break, but Steve MacLean won it for the U’s with a penalty midway through the second half, after he had his arm tugged back by Millers debutant Callum Kennedy.

James Constable had chances to make it safe, but couldn’t add to his 13 goals this season.

“It was a great goal from Heslop – a great team goal,” Wilder said.

“We should have put the game to bed though.

“I should have been lighting up a big fat cigar with 15 minutes to go with the chances we had.

“But Beano (Constable) has got us out of a hole plenty of times for him to not feel despondent in that changing room.”
