Oxford City 5 (Faulkner 35, 68, pen 80, Steele 43, Mekki 57)

Weymouth 0

James Faulkner struck a hat-trick as Oxford City thumped bottom-of-the-table Weymouth in the Premier Division on Saturday.

Faulkner’s treble capped City’s best display of the season as they adapted well to the blustery conditions far better than their visitors.

The only real chance Weymouth had came early on when Matt Groves’s overhead kick scraped the angle of post and bar, but after that, City took control.

Some neat work between Faulkner and Lee Steele saw Faulkner open the scoring with an excellent strike.

And two minutes before half-time, City doubled their lead, as Steele finished off a pass from Faulkner to make it 2-0.

City had few problems in the second half, and went 3-0 up when Adam Mekki got his first goal for the club, powering home a well-struck effort.

The visitors’ attacks were non-existent as keeper Jacub Jesionkowski enjoyed a quiet afternoon in City’s goal.

Felipe Barcelos put Faulkner through for his second of the game, giving keeper Ashley Weeks no chance.

City wrapped it up with fifth goal ten minutes from time.

Michael Lyon, who had seen an effort blocked by Weeks, was then brought down in the area by Richard Groves.

Faulkner slotted away the spot-kick to complete his hat-trick to boost City’s fight against relegation.
