Tiverton Tn 1 (Nardiello 87)

Banbury Utd 0

David Stone missed a first-half penalty as Banbury were plunged into the Premier Division relegation dogfight with this defeat in Devon.

Tiverton, fourth from bottom in the table, secured a precious three points when Michael Nardiello struck the winniner three minutes from time.

Early on, the home side went close through Joe Bushin, who headed wide when well-placed.

But shortly afterwards, Banbury wasted a glorious chance.

Home defender Tom Gardner handled in the penalty area, but Stone’s spot-kick was weak, allowing Tiverton keeper Ryan Draper to make a comfortable save.

At the other end, Banbury’s Joe Murrell did well to save from Bushin as the first half ended goalless.

After the break, the home side gradually gained the upper-hand.

Murrell again did well with a fine reflex save, while Gardner struck an effort against the bar.

Marvin Martin and Malachi Farquharson both went close for Banbury, while Declan Benjamin saw a header tipped over the bar by Draper.

And the home side snatched the points as the clock ticked down., Following a series of corners, Nardiello turned home from close range after Mark Saunders had drilled the ball into the box.
