Didcot Tn 0

Bashley 2 (Knowles 23, 75)

Ady Williams’s first match in charge of Premier Division strugglers Didcot Town ended in defeat at Loop Meadow Stadium on Saturday, writes NICK FARRANT.

Poor defending at set pieces and a lack of cutting edge saw the Railwaymen go down to their 16th defeat of the season – their tenth at home.

And with the demise of Windsor set to see Didcot lose the six points they earned from beating the Royalists twice this season, their hopes of escaping the drop would be dealt a further blow.

Didcot almost fell behind in the opening minutes, but keeper Steve Smith made a good save from Tom Hill.

At the other end, a pass from Didcot's on-loan Aldershot striker Jack Randall found Elliott Osborne-Ricketts, but he fired wide.

And they were made to pay when Chris Knowles headed in Bashley’s opener from a Hill corner.

Early in the second half, Didcot defender Andy Gunn made a goal-saving challenge inside the area to deny Mark Gamble.

But Knowles doubled Bashley’s lead with his second goal after the home side again failed to deal with another Hill corner.

David Elm kept out Randall’s fiercely-struck shot as Didcot looked for a way back into the game.

At the death, Gunn saw a powerful shot deflect wide off a defender as Didcot’s misery continued.
