Chinnor captain Matt Hutchings was delighted with the way his side battled in the second half against Barnstaple.

He said: “We were confident at half-time. It was important not to panic.

“We were a bit disappointed because we hadn’t taken some of our opportunities in the first half, but we were prepared to work hard to hold on to our lead.

“Knowing that we couldn’t really kick the ball meant we had to be prepared to carry it all the time and that got us going.

“Ed Vickers got us on the front foot and gave us a target to run behind. He was excellent.

“I thought our scrummage was dominant in the second half.

“It was really good to score from a 20-metre driving maul.”
