Oxford City striker Lee Steele has rejected a move to Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division rivals Brackley Town so he can help them in their battle against relegation.

Steele, 37, who has scored three goals in the seven games since returning in November, said he owed City a debt of gratitude.

“I have got a bit of affinity for City – everyone has been good to me,” said Steele, who misses Saturday’s home game with Swindon Supermarine due to a hamstring injury.

“My best mate, Dave Savage is here, so it was a no-brainer really.

“The club is in a bit of trouble and it’s my duty as one of the senior players not to rock the boat. I will be doing my best to get them out of it.

“With me being out for a couple of weeks, we need someone to step up to the plate. We have some good players and need them to be strong and do the business and make it difficult for me to get back in the side.

“While I’m not playing I’ll be there supporting the lads.”

City manager Mike Ford said: “It’s a big boost that Lee is staying. We’ll miss him while he’s out, but we have to get on with it.”

Striker James Faulkner is called up after impressing for Oxford City Nomads as they look to boost their goals tally of just 13.

Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey is confident that a flu bug which has swept the club is over ahead of the visit of Didcot Town.

“It’s been terrible – we had six or seven players with it, David Staff and Luke Cray were particularly bad,” said Jeffrey, whose side lost 3-0 at Supermarine last week.

“We had them all in for training last night and hopefully we will be OK for tomorrow.”

He added: “Didcot are much-improved from last year, so it will be tough, but we need to get ourselves back on the rails.”

Jason Taylor and Scott Cross could return after knee and ankle injuries respectively.

Didcot boss Stuart Peace, whose side lost 2-0 at home to Banbury in September, said: “It would be nice to get three points.

“I know Banbury are a hard-working side and we will have to match their workrate if we are going to get a good result.”

In Division 1 South & West, Abingdon United host Stourport Swifts, looking to build on their 5-1 midweek win at Andover.
