Oxford United boss Chris Wilder is urging his team to get their home form back on track – starting against Bradford this Saturday.

While the U’s are flying along on their travels – their 2-1 triumph at Aldershot last weekend was their third consecutive away win – the record at home this season has been very disappointing.

Indeed, United have lost twice as many games at home (six) as they have away (three).

They have also scored more goals away than at the Kassam Stadium, and their points ratio is better away (16 from 11 games) than in front of their own fans (16 from 12 games).

The contrast has been at its most dramatic over the last two Saturdays.

United gave a poor performance in losing 2-0 at home to Southend on January 1, but played some super football in winning at Aldershot.

Wilder admitted: “We are doing better away than at home.

“I’m delighted we’re doing well away. It rankles with me that we’re not producing consistent performances at home. We need to address that in the second part of the season.”

The three consecutive away wins have come at Chesterfield, Torquay and Aldershot, and it’s the first time United have managed that in the Football League since the end of their promotion-clinching 1995-6 campaign when they won 3-0 at Wycombe, 2-0 at Bristol City and 2-1 at Crewe.

With five wins from the last six matches, at home and away, United are up to tenth in npower League Two, well placed to mount a push for a play-off place.

Yet no club in League Two has lost more at home than Oxford this season. And not one team reached the play-offs in any of the Football League divisions last season when losing more than six home games.

Wilder has now turned his attention towards the home match against Bradford.

“We’ve got to keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard,” he stressed. “We’ve got another tough game. It’s about time we got ourselves going back home again now.”

OXFORD United have moved their home game against Cheltenham Town from Tuesday, March 8 to Saturday, January 29 to fill the blank Saturday at the end of this month caused by scheduled opponents Stevenage playing in the FA Cup.
