OXFORD United are fending off clubs interested in taking Jack Midson following his hat-trick at Torquay.

U’s boss Chris Wilder says the centre forward is not leaving, and he’s in the happy position of now having very strong competition for places up front.

United’s manager said: “We’ve had a couple of inquiries about Jack after his exploits on Monday, but I should imagine I would get hanged if I let Jack go out of the building!

“He’s back with us, so nothing will be happening with that one.”

And Wilder confirmed that Midson (pictured above) will start at Aldershot tomorrow, with decisions to be made about who partners him in attack.

“I think Jack will feel a little bit disappointed if he gets left out after scoring a hat-trick,” he said.

“He’s cemented a place, but I don’t envisage too many other changes this time.”

There were no fewer than eight new faces at Torquay on Monday, but that brave move proved a masterstroke as United’s very different-looking side won 4-3 in dramatic fashion.

“I changed it around for Monday,” he said.

“Obviously in the press it was this one axed and that one axed, but it was always my intention to whizz it around.

“There were a lot of tired bodies out there on Saturday so we changed it, and we got the right result.”

Alfie Potter is struggling for the League Two match against the Shots because of a shoulder injury.

“He took a couple of really heavy blows during the game so he’s a bit of a doubt,” said Wilder.

“But we’ve got Tommy (Craddock) back, and Beano (James Constable) and Steve Maclean to choose from.

“I’m happy that Jack’s put himself right in the forefront of my thinking again.

“I think we’ve been brave enough to bring him back. I’m not one of those who says he’s gone out on loan and that’s it. We used him, and he took his chance.

“We’ve got good competition there, but players have to keep scoring to stay in the team.

“You look now with Jack getting a hat-trick and in the team, and natural goalscorers like Craddock, Maclean and Constable – and we’ve got Potter and Matt Green thrown into the mix, and we’ve got healthy competition at the top of the pitch.”
