IT doesn’t get a lot better for Oxford United’s travelling fans than the thrilling win at Torquay on Monday.

So can the U’s repeat that kind of performance on their travels again at Aldershot tomorrow?

United did win 4-3 away once in the Conference, at Histon in August 2009, but you have to go back to October 2003 for the last time there was an away win in the league with four goals.

That was when Dean Whitehead hit a brace in a 4-0 victory at Bury. Deano has gone on to bigger things, of course, and scored at Old Trafford in midweek.

Yet Oxford United had never before won 4-3 away in the Football League.

Similarly, Jack Midson’s treble was the first hat-trick by an Oxford United player in an away Football League match since Paul Moody’s at Cardiff in August 1994.

But tomorrow’s visit to the Rec could be a very different game.

Shots boss Kevin Dillon came under attack from home fans after their 2-1 defeat by bottom club Hereford United on Monday, and is clearly a manager under pressure.

Oxford have lost to Aldershot twice this season, 1-0 at home in the league, and 2-0 away in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The league encounter at the Kassam Stadium was a big disappointment for the U’s, as they were unable to reproduce the form that had seen them beat table-topping Port Vale seven days earlier.

Wilder admitted: “It was a pretty physical game at home.

“I thought for 45 minutes against them here we weren’t far off our best performance, without getting the goals.

“To concede just after half-time knocked us back a bit.

“And we were a bit naive in the second half, in terms of trying to break them down, and they did a good job on us, sat in deep and defended well, and tried to hit us on the break.

“We lost a bit of heart and belief going into the second half, but Saturday’s a new game.”

Aldershot are unable to call upon striker Marvin Morgan, who has been disciplined by his club for an inappropriate twitter posting, and they are still without powerful striker Damian Spencer, who has a long-term injury.

They hope, though, to have midfielder Colin Little fit again.

Morgan has struck 25 goals in 77 appearances, so he will be missed.

Said Wilder: “Obviously, there’s been a lot reported in the media about what’s going on there, but we can’t get involved in all that, we can only control and focus on our own players.”

And Wilder is unlikely to change the team’s attacking philosophy in away matches.

“We’ve proved we can go anywhere away in this league and do well, winning at Chesterfield, winning at a very good Torquay side and going to Crewe and Wycombe, teams at the top of the league, and putting on a decent performance.

“Generally we’ve gone and attacked teams on our travels and reaped our rewards.”

Aldershot v Oxford Utd in Jan-uary will remind older fans of January 10, 1987 when the clubs met at the Recreation Ground in the FA Cup third round.

It was an inauspicious occasion for First Division Oxford, with Fourth Division Aldershot beating them 3-0.
